Our story

As a child, I used to dream of being a professional cyclist. At age fourteen, I became a part of Team Dukla Praha, but had to quit competing soon due to an injury. I didn’t want to give up the sport, and thus, I became a mechanic instead. I loved fixing and preparing bikes for races, yet I wanted to do more.

When I was sixteen, I first downloaded Adobe Illustrator. I could barely draw a circle, but I had a strong desire to learn that pushed me forward. I taught myself through guides on the internet and plain trial and error, and a few months later, I designed a set of jerseys for Dukla. It raced in them for the entire following season.

This was an important achievement for me. Suddenly I was certain that this was something that I wanted to do and that I should continue to refine my skills. Over time, I created dozens of sets for various teams, Czech and international alike.

But if I kept doing the same thing over and over, I would never grow. Thankfully, a valuable opportunity to create the visual for Ráfkárna, a brand new biking shop, came along. For the first time, I designed a logo for myself and slowly came to realize that my nascent efforts could eventually lead to a full-blown graphics studio.

I was still just a sixteen year old boy without any experience, though. I couldn’t afford to hire anyone to help me and at the start, I had to do everything myself. Slowly, commissions not just from friends, but also from their acquaintances began to trickle in. With help from my family, we started dressing up cars and preparing graphic materials for restaurants and other small businesses.

The trickle turned into a flood over the next few years, which meant that I could pursue my dream. From a teenager’s part-time venture, Durt Design became a real company. I hired designers and surrounded myself with talented young people. I wanted us to be a studio that chases the spirit of the times, one that creates the best contemporary graphics and never freezes in place. Simply put, I wanted us to be more than just roustabouts of advertisement.

For this reason, we started to support sport in 2019. Entering a cooperation with Jiří Vašina, one of the best kayakers in the country, we shot our first professional video. It allowed us a glimpse into the background of a proper production, and it became immediately apparent that this should be the direction of our further development.

In the same year, we also entered a partnership with Artrafika, a hopeful commune gallery. I always believed that a company should give back to the people around it in some way. For us, it is supporting talent and projects of young people. Our dream came true, now it’s our turn to aid others achieving theirs.

The year 2020 was key for us. We further developed towards shooting advertisement and promo videos and the big players on the market started to notice. We created a documentary about extreme kayaking in wild nature for one of the biggest corporations in the world, and thus proved to ourselves that we truly had what it takes to work on the highest stage.

Today, we have almost seven years of experience that allow us to take care of your projects as if they were our own. When I founded the company as a child, I wanted to do things properly. This value always remained central for us – we don’t do anything halfway, and quality means everything to us. Our work is our passion, and we cannot be satisfied until we bring the visions of our clients to perfection.
